Imagine you have been hired by a curriculum authority to create a new visual that represents the Working Mathematically Proficiencies. Upload your image/drawing to your journal platform.
Justify images and text included in your visual. Reflect on the importance of working mathematically.
The way I constructed my illustration was to demonstrate the connection between each proficiency, so that when you add them both up, you understand the way they function mathematically.
Mathematical work is an essential part of the learning process. It allows students to participate in genuine mathematical practise while also developing the skills necessary to become versatile, critical, and innovative math users. Inquiry, investigating and relating mathematical concepts, selecting, and applying problem-solving skills and mathematical methods, communication, and reasoning are all ways in which students gain comprehension and fluency in mathematics. Working Mathematically is an important part of the learning process because it allows students to participate in genuine mathematical practise while also developing the skills necessary to become versatile and innovative users of mathematics (“Working Mathematically | NSW Education Standards”, 2021).
Mathematics is an essential component of human logic and reasoning, as well as attempts to comprehend the universe and ourselves. Mathematics is a perfect way to improve mental discipline while still promoting logical thinking and mental rigour. Furthermore, mathematical understanding is important for comprehending the contents of other school subjects such as science, social sciences, and history.
The Australian Mathematics Curriculum strives to be important and practical in the twenty-first century. Understanding, fluency, problem-solving, and reasoning proficiencies are included in the curriculum to ensure that student learning and freedom are at the core of the curriculum. The programme emphasises the development of increasingly complex and refined mathematical comprehension, fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving abilities. These skills enable students to respond to both familiar and unfamiliar situations by using mathematical methods to make informed decisions and solve problems quickly (“Mathematics proficiencies”, 2021).
